Welcome to Ready To Go Driving School, we are here to help you achieve your goal in learning to drive.

  • Most people can learn to drive a car once they turn 17, you can apply for your provisional licence once you turn 16. Apply for your provisional driving licence by clicking the link here.

  • If you already have your provisional driving licence, you can book your theory test 6 months before your 17th birthday but unable to take the test until you turn 17.

  • If you are already 17 and hold a provisional driving licence we would recommend passing the theory test as soon as possible, however you can start learning to drive before passing the theory test.

  • When studying for your theory test, we would recommend using the Driving Test Success software/app, here is the link to the website: https://drivingtestsuccess.com

FAQ

How many lessons will I need?

The average person has around 40-60 hours depending on the pupils ability.

How lessons should I have each week?

We would recommend a minimum of two lessons per week to maintain good progress whilst learning to drive.

Do I need to wear my glasses for driving?

It is a legal requirement to wear glasses if you need them for driving, you may need to speak to an optician if you are unsure. You must be able to read (with glasses or contact lenses, if necessary) a car number plate made after 1 September 2001 from 20 metres.

What footwear should I wear?

We would recommend comfortable, flat sole trainers that fit securely to your foot. We do not suggest high heels or crocs :)

What to expect on my first driving lesson?

At Ready To Go Driving School we are polite and professional, you can expect a friendly instructor who will help you through each step of your journey learning to drive. Your instructor will arrive at the time stated and at the location agreed. Your first lesson is an introduction lesson to get things started, your instructor may drive you to a location to enable you to begin in a suitable safe environment. Your instructor will ensure all relevant paper work is complete, along with checking your provisional driving licence and eye sight. Shortly after your instructor will ensure the vehicle is setup for you to drive, and will explain the relevant controls along with any safety advice before you begin to start the vehicle. During the first lesson you will drive the vehicle, learning the basics of starting and stopping, along with steering and the feel of the controls. Each pupils ability does vary so this will depend on what we achieve on each lesson. Towards the end of your first lesson, your instructor or yourself will drive you back to your pick up point (usually home), in many cases your instructor will drive you back but this does depend on location and the ability of the pupil.
